Hello and welcome to July! We are officially in the second half of 2024 and what a year it has been!
June was a particularly interesting month with many events. The first week of June we sponsored and attended GS1 connect. About 40% of attendees at GS1 Connect were Share-ify Subscribers. great to see everyone there! This year’s conference covered a lot of information about FSMA 204. We heard from companies like Wegman’s, Sysco, and Ahold Delhaize on their preliminary gap assessments and what their organizations have done in their effort to be FSMA compliant by January 2026.
In addition, there was lots of discussion about two dimensional barcodes, and also the use of QR codes on packaging. For those of you that have products that go direct to consumer. There was a lot of good information about what people are doing to further connect to the consumer using QR codes.
On June 18, I moderated a panel presented by the International Fresh Produce Association (or IFPA) that shared tips and advice about how companies can best implement a FSMA 204 solution. While this had a fresh produce focus, it has very good information for non-produce items. So check that out using the links in this post.
In the last week of June, I was on another webinar panel presented by Supermarket Perimeter. In this webinar, a few polls were taken and one was about readiness for FSMA 204. It was actually pretty fascinating. About 15% of respondents stated they are already collecting Key Data Elements (KDE’s) for their Critical Tracking Events (CTE’s). That was a lot higher than I expected! Great job to those companies that are truly ahead of the curve.
But that also means that 85% of companies are still trying to figure how to be ready for FSMA 204 and January 2026.
