Let’s say I have some grain that exceeds the governmental maximum for aflatoxins. What are my choices? I could try to deliver my truck to another receiving site if I got a high result at the last one. I could blend two trucks together to lower the high aflatoxin result below the governmental maximum. Maybe, I will try and sell the grain as animal feed. Other than dumping the truck into a field, what other choices do I have?
What about high Paulin results for apple juice? Do I review my records, procedures and employee training program for the culling of apples? Do I review my storage procedures and storage condition records? Do I review my specification for the sourcing of apples and then verify my inspection results for the apples against the standards in the specification? But I still have the tank of apple juice with high Paulin. I can blend the apple juice with more apple juice or apple juice concentrate, maybe if I am making a mixed fruit juice, use the other juices to lower the Paulin to an acceptable level in the finished product?
With either of these situations, am I increasing my risk of foreign material or pathogen contamination?
Well, at least, I don’t have to think about blending to reduce foreign material or pathogens. “Or do I?”
